MutualArt.com offers specialist database
The Art Newspaper December 6, 2007
A new database, MutualArt.com, is launching at Art Basel Miami Beach today (T11 in the Art Guest Lounge). Founded by New York businessman and Artists Pension Trust founder Moti Shniberg, it provides an art listings service for subscribers. Information on events including private views, auctions and museum shows will be individually presented, based on pre-defined preferences. Also included is an archive of over 150,000 art-related articles (from publications including The Art Newspaper). "I think we have spotted a gap in the market," said Mr Shniberg. "Financiers who collect art are used to having customized information at their fingertips, such as through the Bloomberg platform, and nothing of this depth is currently available in the artworld." Unlike providers such as ArtNet, MutualArt is not charging galleries to include their information on their site. The basic cost to use the site will be $300 per annum.
